- PM Modi on Sunday categorically ruled out scrapping the reservation system and assailed a “group of liars” for the false propaganda that it is under threat. Modi said “Falsehood must stop, terrorizing society must end. This is not politics”.
- Reeling from protests and quakes, Nepal chooses new Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli. He said "I will work alongside everybody to implement the constitution, repair the damage inflicted by the earthquake and address the hardships raised by the Indian blockade". Many people from Nepal's plains feel the constitution signed last month perpetuates long-standing domination by highland politicians.
- Iraqi air forces have bombed the convoy of the terrorist Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi while he was heading to Karabla to attend a meeting with ISIS commanders. Several senior figures from Islamic State were killed in an air strike while meeting in a town in western Iraq, but the group's leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi did not appear to be among them, residents of the town and hospital sources said.
- Traders body CAIT has alleged that e-commerce firms such as Amazon, Flipkart and Snapdeal are violating FDI norms by holding forthcoming festive season sales. These companies claim to be a marketplace and therefore can provide only a technology platform for the sellers who are registered with them. Since ownership of inventory is not held by the said companies, they cannot offer 'sale' or 'Discounts' in totality on their online portals but they are doing so. This establishes that they are not marketplace and as such openly flouting FDI policy.
- In a last ball thriller India fell short of four runs while chasing a mammoth 303 of South Africa. Rohit Sharma played brilliantly to score 150 but South Africa held the nerves in last over to come as winner.
