  • Four army personnel were martyred while a militant was killed in two separate gun-battles between terrorists and security forces in J&K on Monday. Four jawans lost their lives in the encounter with militants during an operation launched in Haphruda forest in Handwara after a tip off about the presence of terrorists.
  • On Monday, Narendra Modi hailed Germany as a "natural partner" of India after signing deals with Angela Merkel on clean energy and speeding up the European powerhouse's investment in India. A deal to fast track approvals for German companies in India and Euro 1 billion solar power fund by Germany were among major takeaways. 
  • A curfew was imposed for a short period today in parts of Varanasi after clashes between protesters and the police. Issue started when Police did  lathi-charge on a religious leader and his followers, who were heading to the banks of river Ganga for the immersion ritual. 
  • Samsung has launched a new rugged smartphone, Galaxy Active Neo in the budget segment. The phone has been launched in Japan at 20,000 yen (Rs 10,900 approximately) but is also expected to soon make its global debut.
  • South Africa won the second T20 match by 6 wickets to take a lead of 2-0 in three match series. India played first and scored only 92 which South Africa chased with ease to win the match and series.
  • A walking fish, a unicorn (of sorts), a blue eyed frog, a ‘sneezing’ monkey, are among the two hundred and eleven new species discovered in Eastern Himalayas in the last six years, says the WWF Living Himalayas Initiative’s latest report termed “Hidden Himalayas: Asia’s Wonderland” released on Monday.
